We are living in a value crisis. Our culture treats human beings like commodities and values possessions and status over relationships. We are constantly being fed the message that we are not beautiful enough, not smart enough, not strong enough.
Young people see the fallout from this value crisis every day at school and in their own personal lives. Because they experience these problems on an everyday basis, we believe that these young people are in the best position to find a solution and communicate the message of Value Every Person to their peers. We are training young people to speak to their own generation about the value of human life.
That's why we created The Value Project.
The Value Project starts with a three-day symposium where high school students learn that valuing themselves and valuing others has the power to transform their personal lives and their school community. Led by a team of experts from the fields of communication, media, and marketing, the students are educated about the inherent value of every human being; equipped with the skills to craft a customized media campaign, and given the support to implement it within their schools. Through this process these student leaders spread Signal Hill's message of Value Every Person to everyone they encounter.
While going through this process of discovery makes an impact on the students, it isn't until they bring the message of Value Every Person back to their schools that they see the incredible difference that change makes:
"In my school, I've seen a great impact among my fellow students and friends for the better. Most of the school has slowly changed the way they talk. I don't hear anymore people degrading others or singling others out, but instead they are including everyone."
And it isn't just the students who notice a difference. When asked about the most significant thing his students learned, one teacher replied, "That they have a voice, and that they can make a difference in their communities. It was such a great opportunity for their leadership potential to blossom."
We have big plans for The Value Project and we will need your help, whether it is by helping to sponsor a student, using your influence to bring The Value Project to your school, or simply by spreading the word. We invite you to be part of this amazing initiative.
