Annual Giving Officer

Position Purpose and Summary

 The Annual Giving Officer will work alongside an exciting, supportive, and highly collaborative team that works tirelessly to reveal the unconditional value of every person to young people. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Annual Giving Officer designs, implements, and coordinates a comprehensive donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship program for all donors in the annual giving portfolio.

 Key Areas of Accountability

 In collaboration with the Signal Hill staff, the Annual Giving Officer provides tactical leadership for the direct mail strategy, monthly donor strategy, donor calling program, and grant-writing as part of the overall aim of acquiring and retaining increasing numbers of donors.

1.   Donor Relations Program & Analysis

In order to improve overall donor engagement, through the use of various communications methods (mail, email, social media, calling, etc.), ensure that Signal Hill donors are communicated with effectively and efficiently. As campaigns, projects, and events are built and maintained, monitor overall results, produce reports and analysis for further improvement. Deliverables include:

  • Donor acquisition identification/research/communications
  • In-person meetings with small-mid level donor relationships
  • Donor call campaigns
  • Direct Mail and integrated media campaigns
  • Information updates in our data base system
  • Lapsed donor re-engagement initiatives
  • Fundraising and donor appreciation events
  • Prospect identification for legacy and major giving
  • Data analysis and recommendations for improvement
  • Measuring levels of campaign success

2.   Grant-Writing

As part of the overall Development strategy, increase the number of donors from grant making foundations and corporate entities and all levels of government. Responsibilities include:

  • Research and apply to foundations, businesses, and government offices that provide granting opportunities
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with donors to ensure delivery within the parameters and outcomes established by the approved grant application.

3.   Budget Management

Effectively manage business expense accounts and assigned project accounts within the Development budget.

Qualities & Skills

  • Superior, well-developed writing and marketing abilities for direct mail marketing and grant writing. Good ability in organizing, planning, prioritizing, administrative details, and presentations.
  • Able to work under significant time, financial, and schedule pressures, effectively interacting with donors.
  • Superior demonstrated customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a wide range of individuals, nationalities, and personalities, including high-level contacts and corporate and foundation executives.
  • Superior software skills with MS Word and Excel and general understanding donor data base system.
  •  Good team player, multi-tasking skills with demonstrated persistence, initiative, and tact.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset.

Education & Experience

  • BA required. Will consider extensive business and leadership experience as well.
  • 3-4 years in sales and marketing, business development, public relations, or fundraising role required.
  • Preference will be given to those with non-profit experience in a fundraising context.

Position Details

  • This position is full time and offers a salary in the range of $52,000-62,000 with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
  • Includes Extended Health Benefits.
  • Attendance at events outside of regular office hours may be required.
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate is required to provide a criminal record check clearance letter with a vulnerable sector search.
